Rent, Profit and Interest Are All The Same
What do you mean it adds up to zero?
There is no such thing as a trivial amount of money !
Wealth is people making the goods and delivering the services that we need and want. Plus, of course, the necessary natural resources.
Exactly. The more you produce, the more wealthy. It's amazing how propaganda has many people blind to common sense
I’ve been listening to you from day one, I’ve took in everything you have ever said & told friends & family to tune into you. Great you’re addressing this as it helps the new audience get to grips with topics you’ve discussed. Hopefully we can come together for change to help everyone. ❤🙏
I share exactly the same concerns as you Gary. I’ve always said as long as working class people are divided, the establishment win. We need to unite and not continue to fall for the divide and conquer tactics deployed by the establishment.
This was a brilliant idea. Well done Gary. 🙌🙌
Great Video I am learning so much.
Basically all he is saying is rich get richer, poor get poorer and that’s wrong…Rest is wishful thinking.
Wealth tax would only work if the rest of the G20 did it. If we did it in isolation, wealthy owners and their businesses go elsewhere in a heart beat. Just the way it is, and you need to address Gary (maybe you have)
This is how the next government is going to address inequality. It will be done through means testing the middle class, based on their assets and money saved starting with the state pension. Because they won't tax the rich.
Would a Land Tax help?
Did you all see the US president(Biden) and the contender (Trump) debates ? Well, it's pretty obvious the US is NOT A DEMOCRACY. Who in their right mind thinks these two ailing, senile, diaper wearing old white men are America's best or brightest ? So, who is really in POWER ?
The most important concept is that wealth includes ownership of where we all work - so most people do not own these workplaces and we therefore have to work for those who do. In doing so, we make them more money through our labour power, which means that they can buy more places in which to force us to work for them, and round and round it goes. So we don't just make them rich by borrowing from them or paying them rent, we make them rich by WORKING for them.
Health is real wealth .
I wish more people understood this. There's a very high chance I could have a very rich Reform MP in my town next week because too many people believe that most of their money is going to immigrants and it's very sad to see
If you truly don't want to vote, please don't do a spoiled paper, but write in s non smudged biro " I do NOT consent " This means it will be counted as a non vote. Otherwise it will be a spoiled paper and put in the bin Under Labour, practically all of us will become much poorer, including seniors Kier Starmer will bring us into WW3 imo
Reform!
Hey Gary, are you intentionally avoiding the definition that Marx gave to describe wealth? If yes - is it because you think it's strategically wrong to use Marx's definitions politically wise? Or you have other definitions you prefer but avoiding the technicality. If not intentional - I assume you've read The Capital, as an informed economist. Why you never make us of his definition of wealth to describe the problem? Thanks for all your work, big supporter
spot on fella
We're all in this for the long haul Gary ! This is going to take time. But your message is getting through. I voted Greens and i couldn't care less about people saying it's a wasted vote. Change, when it does come, i think it may come quickly. Especially after a couple of years of labour because any actual changes with them will be negligible. The tories are horrendous, so we will need change. On an aside, i dislike fellow workers saying things like, ' i manage, i seem to get by.' My reply is, well why should you just get by ? The rich certainly arent content just to ' get by.' Keep getting your message out
Will this course teach people how to set themselves up to make their money go further, what products offered by banks or other methods to use, even if their money is a modest annual salary?
Thank you for that.
i can recommend the classic "the ragged trousered philanthropists". I borrowed the audiobook read by tony robinson from the online county library for free, but the knowledge in it is priceless
great idea and very decent of you ! wealth to me is the Freedom to make choices
I think it's time to reform.
Great? it really helps our understanding
3 easy steps to fix the economy of the uk and therefore improve living standards of all citizens. 1. Stop all rises in state pensions and slowly phase out the state pension system all together. 2. Make benifits what they should be a last resort to keep you off the streets and from starvation nothing more. If you make the benefit system very unattractive it becomes sustainable for the people who reallly need it most. 3. Open the borders the uk is empty especially Scotland I understand the south east is full but that’s it however you have to be upfront if you come here and do not pay into the system you can not take from it. It’s so simple but no politician has the backbone to implement these simple steps to get us back on track as a world power and look beyond one term
Brilliant analysis thank you Gary.
And the Biggie for me is land ownership, oh and yes, Debt! Bank Job by Hilary Powell and Daniel Edelstyn 😊
Immigration is not a problem, it's route cause is a declining standard of home-grown labour and willingness to make a difference. Address this issue, and the country doesn't need to look abroard.
That's a really good idea, re the MOOC
Immigration has cost the Netherlands billions, or so they say. I like your videos, but repeat yourself ad nauseam.
💥💥vote Reform 💥💥
I love the concept of the course of numbered videos. Many other viewers obviously share my enthusiasm for it. Forgive me if this has already been said in the comments, but I was puzzled as to why the video itself is not entitled 'Gary's Economics Course, Part 1: What is Wealth?' (or similar) Is this an oversight or is there something I am not getting? I think this sort of title with a number label is pretty crucial to spreading the concept. Overall, really appreciate your vital work and your excellent delivery.
Wealth is what you have left when anything of economic utility is taken away.
Simply put: Wealth is unspent income, which can then be invested in property, gold or even owning someone's debt
much better video, but mate why not try talking with someone while your explaining some of your points, as then maybe you will get the details that explain some of the core concepts better than just repeating your self, like how many times did you say "what is wealth?". take a look at "neil degasse tyson explains" videos the conversation podcast style really works, and jordan peterson never talks to him self... he always talking to someone... economics dont have to be boring.
Thank you Gary - brilliant what you’re doing
Gary used his money market bonuses (after the 2008 crash , when we socialised the banks) to buy investment properties 😢😢😢 but hes here on here preaching to the double jabbed about wealth stripping the poor
bravo Gary. good work.
I think you are right.middle class is everything. Whole country will be like london. Scary future. Inequality never ends well and it's not fair.
Commenting for the algorithm
the economy is best when the largest section of the population is the middle class
Preach it Gary ✊🏻 For far too long the BBC (and others) invite these rabib right wing, free market buccaneers on with dubuous names such as the IEA which are funded anonymously by dark money to spout thrir nonsense. They're just paid shills or have vested interest themselves. Keep punching Gary - the public need to be made aware.
Richie soonas awarded his wife the 39 billion pounds contract to design and build a new ICT system for the NHS, They just cream the top off.
Are you saying every day I buy coffee, and every time I buy newest iPhone, and every time, I waste money someone is profiting out of me. I hope your education video will focus on how to help people change their lives and attitudes and not only say that they are the victims.
Yes that is exactly it. Money goes to the rich on almost every transaction you do
@@lancecroll972 Yes, and you make the decision when to make that transaction. Some are unavoidable, like if you don't live with parents you will be paying rent and buying food, but you don't need to buy newest greatest shit every day. Average American will spend $18,000 a year on non-essential items. If you are considering yourself average pore person, than instead of wasting money buy Stocks and share ISA like snp500 with 12%/14% annual rate, and after 10years will have over 300k.
@@lancecroll972 Almost every transaction you make, it is voluntarily. There are some transactions, if you don't live with your parents, you will have to make - like shelter and food. Many transactions you make are non-esentials, you don't need to have the latest greatest shiny thing every day. On average, Americans spend about $18,000 a year on non-essential items, if you are average non-wealthy person, instead of buying stuff you don't need, invest into stocks&shares ISA something like snp500 with 12/14% return, and after 10years will have over $300k thanks to compouding.

Hey everyone, please don’t come for me harsh in the comments because I’m asking a genuine question. I like Gary and think he’s obviously a switched on bloke and certainly knows more about economics than I do. However, I’m currently a small business owner but I’m looking to scale over the next few years and hopefully in the next 5-10 years go for a 7-8 figure exit. I’ve heard Gary go on about taxing the rich and all of that stuff. For me I get it to a point but it kind of feels like penalising those who work hard. For the record I grew up in a single parent very low income household. My dad was in jail and my mother earned I think something like £13000 a year. We never had the money to get me new school shoes, haircuts and I ate one meal a day. When I was about 12 I decided there was no way I was going to live like that as an adult so ever since I’ve been chasing the good life. I want to live in a nice house and drive a nice car. I want to have cash in the bank and do lots of travelling and if I may say, I’ve worked damn hard so far to get where I’ve got. Is there something wrong with that?
yes
he should rasther teach people to play the game than penalise good players
@@VictorKibalchich okay, what’s wrong with that?
Having gone through a traditional economics education, I appreciate how simply and clearly you explain these topics! Your book was great storytelling too. If you do this more sturctured course (MOOC type thing), I'd recommend hiring an videographer/animator and putting in more visuals/data like Economics Explained to similar channels. Your core inequality mesage would go further!
I think with immigration there is a very real difference with whoever you're speaking too. A middle class professional would not care. To some extent a working class person may not care. But someone competing for a room to rent, gp slot, or feeling the brunt of austerity cuts from years ago may think it's unfair for a guy from Bangladesh with a dodgy Greek passport and his wife in tow getting front of the line priority treatment in public services. It's not my issue but someone else's. I have no negative feelings towards immigration.
If you earn $30k per year you're at bottom level in the West. When you go East and South then you're very rich. Most people live in their bubble and follow the Narrative aka "rat race". Don't follow the narrative, plug out and open your eyes and you will be very rich in your life if you're smart
